Please read ALL of these instructions before beginning. This is a model of "The Luggage" from From Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" series of comedic fantasy novels. Scale is approximately 1/24. The model is intended to print at 7.5 inches by 10 inches (190.5mm x 254mm), so it should print correctly on US Letter or A4 size sheets of 90 lb (165 gram per square meter) index card by centering the image on the page, preserving the aspect ratio, and setting the image width to 7.5 inches (190.5 mm). The finished 1/24 scale model is about 1.5 inches (38mm) long. Assembly is straightforward. There are short dashed lines to indicate where to score, and red "x" marks to indicate areas to be removed. All folds are made away from the printed side. Small numbers on the parts indicate where other parts will be placed. 1. Score and cut out part 1. Fold and glue into an open-topped box. Glue part 2 onto the four remaining tabs to close the box. Option: At this point, decide whether you want the keyhole to have depth. If you do, then cut the small black rectangles out of parts 3 and 12, and the black keyhole shape out of part 13. Otherwise just proceed. 2. Score and cut out part 3. Remove the marked section. Fold the narrow section away to a ninety degree angle. Apply glue only to the back of the wide section and attach part 3 to the front (the side with the small black rectangle) of part 1, fitting the part carefully so that the narrow section of part 3 fits snugly against the bottom of part 1. Apply glue to the back of the narrow section of part 3 and secure it to the bottom of part 1. 3. Score and cut out part 4. Remove the marked section. Fold the narrow section away to a ninety degree angle. Apply glue only to the back of the wide section and attach part 4 to the back of part 1, fitting the part carefully so that the narrow section of part 4 fits snugly against the bottom of part 1. Apply glue to the back of the narrow section of part 4 and secure it to the bottom of part 1. 4. Score and cut out part 5. Remove the marked section. Fold the narrow section away to a ninety degree angle. Apply glue only to the back of the wide section and attach part 5 to the right end of part 1, fitting the part carefully so that the narrow section of part 5 fits snugly against the bottom of part 1. Apply glue to the back of the narrow section of part 5 and secure it to the bottom of part 1. 5. Score and cut out part 6. Remove the marked section. Fold the narrow section away to a ninety degree angle. Apply glue only to the back of the wide section and attach part 6 to the left end of part 1, fitting the part carefully so that the narrow section of part 6 fits snugly against the bottom of part 1. Apply glue to the back of the narrow section of part 6 and secure it to the bottom of part 1. 6. Score and cut out part 7. Fold it to a ninety degree angle. Glue part 7 to part 3 and part 6 where indicated. 7. Score and cut out part 8. Fold it to a ninety degree angle. Glue part 8 to part 3 and part 5 where indicated. 8. Score and cut out part 9. Fold it to a ninety degree angle. Glue part 9 to part 4 and part 5 where indicated. 9. Score and cut out part 10. Fold it to a ninety degree angle. Glue part 10 to part 4 and part 6 where indicated. 10. Cut out part 11 and glue it to part 4 where indicated. 11. Cut out part 12 and glue it to part 3 where indicated. Cut out part 13 and glue it to part 12 where indicated. 12. Score parts 14 where indicated. Cut out parts 14, bend each and flatten again. Glue one part 14 to each of the three locations indicated on parts 9, 10 and 11. 13. Score parts 15 where indicated. Carefully cut out the marked sections as close to the parts as you can. Cut out the parts leaving extra card around the outside. Fold each part 15 double and glue together, making sure that the halves of the parts align well. Place under a flat weight, such as a book, until the glue sets. Carefully trim the excess card away from the outsides of the parts. Color the cut edges of the parts with a black marker if desired. Glue the small white oblongs on each part 15 to the matching white oblongs on part 5 and part 6. 14. Score part 16 where indicated. Score also each of the square tabs around the curved ends. Form part 16 into a half-cylinder and glue securely. Glue part 17 to the four remaining tabs to close the cylinder. 15. Remove the marked sections of part 18. Cut out part 18 and gently curve to fit over part 16. Align carefully and glue in place where indicated. Pay attention to the scalloped markings for orientation. 16. Cut out three parts 19. Gently curve to fit over part 18. Align each carefully with one of the indicated areas of part 18 and glue in place. Pay attention to the scalloped markings for orientation, and note that one part 19 has only three rivets at one end where the others have four; this part 19 is the middle one. 17. Remove the marked sections of two parts 20. Cut out parts 20 and glue where indicated to the ends of part 16. 18. Cut out parts 21 and glue where indicated to parts 20. 19. Carefully align the three places on parts 19 marked "14" with parts 14 and glue into place. Glue one part 14 at a time and apply gentle pressure until the glue sets firmly. 20. Score and cut out part 22. Fold part 22 into a wedge shape and glue securely at all tabs. The small end of the wedge does not need to be glued, but should fit closely. Glue part 22 to part 2 where indicated. Small amounts of glue at the corners should suffice. Similarly apply glue to the top of part 22 and gently press the lid closed against it until the glue sets. 21. Optional: Cut apart part 23 into individual teeth and glue into their respective positions over the printed teeth on part 22. Creation of hundreds of legs for the bottom of The Luggage is left as an exercise for the builder.
