Please read ALL of these instructions before beginning. This is a model of Lady Margolotta von Uberwald's sedan chair from Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" series of comedic fantasy novels. Scale is approximately 1/24. The model is intended to print at 7.5 inches by 10 inches (190.5mm x 254mm), so it should print correctly on US Letter or A4 size sheets of 90 lb (165 gram per square meter) index card by checking the "Auto-Rotate and Center" box in Adobe Reader and setting "Page Scaling" to "None." The finished model is about 2.5 inches (64 mm) tall. Assembly is straightforward. The red and blue arrows indicate score lines, with red arrows indicating peak folds (away from the printed side) and blue arrows indicating valley folds (toward the printed side). ** You will also need two pieces of bamboo skewer or dowel about 1/8" (3 mm) in diameter, and 4.5" (115 mm) long. ** Alternatively, you could roll paper into suitable cylinders instead of using skewers. In either case, these pieces should be colored black. 1. Score and cut out part 1. Be sure to also score the two short colored tabs on the RIGHT SIDE and LEFT SIDE of part 1 adjacent to the FRONT of part 1, as there was no place to put arrows for these tabs. Pre-fold all scored lines, paying close attention to the directions of the folds. For reference, the FRONT of part 1 is toward the bottom of the page. 2. Score and cut out part 2. Pre-fold all scored lines, paying close attention to the directions of the folds. Glue the single end tab to part 1 just below the only peak fold line on the BACK of part 1. 3. Fold up the BACK of part 1, with part 2 attached. Fold up the RIGHT SIDE of part 1; glue the short colored tab to the inside of the BACK of part 1 where indicated, just under part 2. 4. Fold up the LEFT SIDE of part 1; glue the short colored tab to the inside of the BACK of part 1 where indicated, just under part 2. 5. Glue the two remaining tabs of part 2 to the indicated locations on the RIGHT SIDE and LEFT SIDE of part 1. Glue the smaller rectangular portion of part 2 to the bottom of part 1 between the dashed line and the FRONT of part 1. 6. Glue the two long colored tabs on the BACK of part 1 to the indicated locations on the insides of the RIGHT SIDE and LEFT SIDE of part 1. 7. Fold up and glue the FRONT of part 1 to the two short colored tabs on the RIGHT SIDE and LEFT SIDE of part 1. 8. Score and cut out part 3. Pre-fold the scored lines. Glue the tabs of part 3 to the inside of the RIGHT SIDE and LEFT SIDE of part 1 where indicated, at the top and toward the front. 9. Cut out part 4. Glue the long tabs on the top of part 1 to the indicated locations on part 4. ** If all is well at this point, the entire interior of the assembly should be red, and the exterior white. ** 10. Cut out part 5, 6, 7 and 8. Glue to the lower FRONT, upper FRONT, bottom and BACK, respectively. Touch up visible edges with a pencil, crayon, or marker if desired. 11. Cut out the two parts 9. Glue to the RIGHT SIDE and LEFT SIDE. Touch up visible edges with a pencil, crayon, or marker if desired. 12. Score and cut out part 10. Pre-fold all four tabs flat against the uncolored side of part 10. Glue all four tabs flat against the uncolored side and place a weight on top of part 10 to hold it flat until the glue dries. 13. Glue part 10 to part 4; only a few drops of glue at the corners and long sides are needed. 14. Score and cut out all four parts 11. Pre-fold the two tabs on each part 11. Wrap the middle of each part 11 around a piece of 1/8" (3 mm) diameter rod to form brackets. Optional: Color the inside of each bracket black; do not color the tabs. 15. Glue the four parts 11 to parts 9 where indicated by small white rectangles. 16. Slip the two pieces of skewer through the brackets (parts 11) on either side of the vehicle and center approximately. Gluing is optional. Construction of suitable bearers is left as an exercise for the builder.
