"Stubby" A generic fantasy tank in 1/72 (25 mm) scale Please read ALL of these instructions before beginning. There are assembly options which should be decided before anything is cut. This is a model of a generic fantasy tank, sort of a "superdeformed," cartoony thing. The model is intended to print at 7.5 inches by 10 inches (190.5mm x 254mm), so it should print correctly on US Letter or A4 size sheets of 90 lb (165 gram per square meter) index card by centering the image on the page, preserving the aspect ratio, and setting the image width to 7.5 inches (190.5 mm). Assembly is meant to proceed in numerical order as the parts are numbered. Score all the uncolored glue tabs *except* the end tabs on parts 4A and 4D. Score elsewhere as indicated in these instructions. -- Hull -- 1. Score part 1 along the four lines of the central rectangle. Cut out part 1, taking note to cut the tabs free at the red lines indicated by arrows. Fold away from the printed side at all scores and tabs and glue together, gently curving around the rounded corners. A small gap where the ends butt together is unimportant. -- Track Units -- 2. Score parts 2L and 2R where the tracks meet the road wheels. Fold away from the printed side at all scores and tabs and glue together, gently curving around the rounded corners. Overlap where the track ends meet is unimportant. 3. Position the hull (part 1) on either track unit (parts 2L and 2R) to fill the white area. Glue the two assemblies together in this position. Repeat for the other track unit on the other side, checking before the glue sets that the tracks will meet a flat surface evenly. Note that right and left are interchangeable at this point. -- Hull Top -- 4. Score part 3A along the four vertical lines (two are marked with arrows). Fold the two outermost flaps under and glue to the unprinted side of part 3A (OPTION: Cut the outermost flaps off along the lines marked with arrows. Glue to the underside of part 3A, aligning the cut edges. If using heavier card, omit these flaps entirely or the tracks won't fit). 5. Fold the doubled flaps and glue tabs away from the printed side. Curve part 3A over the rounded corners of the doubled flaps and glue the tabs to the underside of part 3A. 6. OPTIONAL: Cut part 3B in two along the line indicated by the arrow. Curve and glue the unprinted side to the underside of part 3A against the doubled side flaps and covering the glue tabs. You have just made doubled fenders and skirts. The only unprinted areas of part 3A remaining should be the circle on the top and a central strip on the underside. If using heavier card, omit these parts or the tracks won't fit. 7. Glue the hull top (parts 3A (and 3B)) to the top of the hull (part 1). -- Turret -- 8. Curve part 4A into a shroud and glue the tab to the inside. 9. Fold all tabs on part 4B away from the printed side a bit *less* than 90 degrees. Fit part 4B into the smaller end of part 4A, printed side out, and glue in place. 10. Fold all tabs on part 4C away from the printed side a bit *more* than 90 degrees. Fit part 4C into the larger end of part 4A and glue in place. 11. Look at the tread pattern on parts 2L and 2R. The front of the tank has the triangular tread points aimed down. Position the turret in the unprinted circle on part 3A with the small circle on part 4A to the front of the tank. Glue in place. -- Cupola -- 12. Curve part 4D into a cylinder with the printed side out and glue the end tab inside. Fold all the remaining glue tabs toward the center 90 degrees. 13. Glue part 4E to one end of the cylinder (part 4D). 14. Position part 4F on the other end of the cylinder (part 4D) with the printed side out. Align the hinge on part 4F with the seam of part 4D and glue in place. 15. Position the cupola (parts 4D, 4E and 4F) in the unprinted circle on part 4B. Align the seam of part 4D with the seam of part 4A and glue the cupola in place. -- Gun -- 16. Place the unprinted sides of parts 5A and 5B against each other, with one short side aligned and overlapping about halfway. Glue the parts together in this position. Roll this assembly into a cylinder with part 5B on the inside. You may need to trim part 5B a tiny bit to make the long edges of part 5A butt together. Once fit is achieved, glue the unprinted parts together to form a double-thick cylinder. 17. Look at both ends of the cylinder. Part 5B should be set back a tiny bit at one end. Glue part 5C inside part 5A and against part 5B at this end, with the printed side of part 5C inside. 18. Allow the gun (parts 5A, 5B and 5C) to dry well, then glue the capped end of the gun to the turret at the small unprinted circle on part 4A. Addition of antennae and accessories is left for the custom model builder.
